Textile waste recycling

Textile waste becomes new material, not ash

Fiberlux is a plant being prepared in Pärnu County, Estonia, that turns textile waste into acoustic panels, impact-sound underlays and technical felt.

Status: the plant is being prepared. We welcome contact from textile suppliers in the Baltics and the Nordics.

The problem

The EU generates about 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste a year. Only about a fifth is collected separately, and the rest often goes to incineration or landfill because there is no other outlet. Since 2025 all member states must collect textiles separately, but there are not enough recyclers for what is collected.

In Estonia, according to an overview by the Ministry of Climate, about two thirds of textile waste was incinerated and about a fifth landfilled. The whole region faces the same problem.

We accept all textile waste suitable for processing

From collectors, retail, industry, institutions and people. From everyone looking for a proper solution for their textile waste.

SuitableNot suitable
Used clothing and home textiles not fit for reuseWet or mouldy textiles
Unsold goods and rejectsBags mixed with household waste
Production waste, selvedges and cutting scrapsRubber- or PVC-coated materials
Workwear, bed linen, towelsFootwear
Wool and mixed-fibre textiles

Textiles must be dry and free of debris. If in doubt, ask first. The exact list depends on our waste permit.

Controlled and documented recycling

Each delivery is weighed on arrival and tied to a batch number. Suppliers receive a receipt and a mass balance: how much came in, how much became product and how much was residue. Your goods do not return to the market. They are processed into fibre, and you keep the proof for your reporting and producer responsibility. Third-party certification (RCS or GRS) is planned for the start of production.

What Fiberlux does

We use mechanical recycling on an Italian line in four stages: opening, airlay, thermobonding and needle-punching. We do not make new clothes. We use the fibre that is no longer fit for spinning and give it a long life in buildings, industry and furniture.

Who it is for

The plant is planned in Pärnu County on the Via Baltica route. Pärnu also has a cargo port. We serve suppliers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Collectors and municipalities: an outlet for separately collected textiles.
Retail and brands: documented recycling for unsold goods and rejects.
Industry and manufacturers: an outlet for production and cutting waste.
Laundries, hotels, hospitals, workwear rental: an outlet for worn textiles.
People and communities: we welcome larger quantities and joint deliveries, for example from a housing association, a school or a company campaign.

Cooperation and partners

We are looking for partners who want to actually solve the textile problem, not only talk about it:

Research institutions: material research, trials and measurements.
Product developers and designers: new products from recycled fibre, trial batches.
Companies and organisations: joint development projects in Estonia and at EU level.
